I took this pic a while back. I find tagging to be a funny thing, if it is a nice looking piece that’s not just blatant vandalism, I generally don’t mind it, but those arb single-colour signature tags you see on people’s front walls piss me off big time. That’s not sub-culture, it’s just a mess. I want to find the punks that do it and bitch-slap them.
That’s why I enjoyed this link I saw in Friday’s B3ta newsletter.
Rich woz here…!

Nige and Bob just got politically correct. The brilliant minds at CTM’s agency have now added a token black lady to the mix. Does anyone else find this kind of thing as patronizing as I do? Good grief, it’s starting to look as bad as that Castle Lager rubbish.
I want to vomit…!

They’re not coming for the luscious greens and awesome nightlife, they’re coming to learn how to survive. The thing is, it’s not the real Tiger Woods and Madonna, they’re two South China tiger cubs that need to learn how to live in the wild.
If there’s any place people need to go for survival training, it’s SA!

Especially for something as arb as this:
What really attracted me were the “I <3 my harp” and “Harpists do it heavenly” bumper stickers.
I actually took the time to take this photo, and post about it, because I don’t know one single person who can play, or knows someone who can play a harp. They’re just not cool.
Surprisingly, Avondale Harp Enterprises is the only harp shop in South Africa.
I wonder why…

In another winning move, Multichoice have decided to add a new music channel to their Dstv bouquet. MTV Base.
” MTV Base will also provide a platform for a variety of African music genres alongside diverse international urban artists including Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Sean Paul, IAM, Passi and Saian Supa Crew.”
Now, as much as I detest RnB music, I know there are folk who dig it. I also. Don’t. Care. There are other people in this country who have been fighting, and fightin’ hard, to get more alternative music channels in this country for years, but to no avail. Let’s be honest, most other contemporary styles are already nicely covered (Soundcheck, Channel O, MTV – same shit, different channel). If you flick over to MTV Europe, pretty much all you get are RnB vids, back to back with the newest/dodgiest Kylie vid, hip hop and whatever else is spewing from Latin America these days. I am sick to death of the latest rubbish pop trend. I am exhausted of these precast lyrical ideas, and ‘fashionable’ production elements (yes you, Missy). I am tired of all the made-to-order booty videos (believe it or not). And I vomit everytime a new chitzy prince/ss wiggles her way across my screen with minimal clothing, less talent and a song she hasn’t even written. Does anyone actually have anything to say worth hearing anymore? Aaarrgrg!
Breathe… must breathe.
Will they ever listen? Will we ever be able to see our ‘platform’ on the countries only Satellite provider? Do I have to start quoting Slayer lyrics here, people?! In the same way you don’t want to see RnB fans in love, or Hip Hop fans with a gun, you do not want to see angry alternative people. And we’re already pretty mad (see Slipknot and Rage Against the Machine for references)…
I don’t know how eloquently I made my point. Bollocks to you, I have spittle on my keyboard and I’m angry.

That’s the last line on SARS’ new billboard advertising their move from Rissik Str to Carlton Centre. Very cool.

Following on a post I wrote over at “Hello_World” (helps if you read it first btw.) I wanted to give a local example of branding by way of proof.
I’m willing to bet that 6 months ago, less than 10% of you South Africans had heard of the company Itec. I’m also willing to bet that today less than 10% of you haven’t.
What’s amazing to me is that they’ve done absolutely nothing fancy at all i.e. they wont win Loeries, but they’ll probably sell copiers
They have-branded their cars (which seem to be everywhere) they have a small, but well placed TV campaign, and their billboards are omnipresent. Thus if they walk into your office to sell you a copier, you’ll listen to them, because they’re credible. Their branding works.
I realized this when I handed them the cheque…!

According to Game in Cresta Shopping Centre,
kiddies movies include titles like American Pie: The Wedding, Tears of the Sun, Mona Lisa Smile, Sniper 2, Head of State, and many more flicks with age restrictions over 13. They really cater for all sorts, don’t they?

I would like everyone to let Rich…! know what a wonderful boss he is.
While you suckers are sitting behind steaming, glaring monitors, stressing and complaining, I have taken my allowed birthday half-day, and am now sitting comfortably, prostrate on my patio, drinking glacially cold Amstel Lagers, listening to DMX Hard Rock, blogging, and generally loving this South Africa right now. Look out your window. Do it now. Where would you prefer to be?
Jealous?
It’s rare that us locals get to appreciate the country in the same way that tourists do. I can see why, now, so many sock/sandal wearing Germans and drawling Yanks make our home their holiday destination of choice, and it’s a pity. Today is absolutely beautiful.
More so for me, though, I would like to point out.
Cheers.

People, this is not a drill. There is a new breed of car thief prowling the suburbs. They will take your car while you’re shopping and they’ll park it at least 5 rows from where you left it.
If this happens to you, it is your right, nay, your duty, to shout and scream at the car park attendant saying things like “Where’s my car bro? Why don’t you do your %&@£ job and watch cars instead of helping people with licenses to get out of a parking spot? Are you going to get me a new car?”.
Apologizing profusely in shame (especially when the guy says “don’t worrry, I’m used to it, happens every day.”) when you find your car is not necessary, remember, you’re the victim here.
Calling tracker is also a must…!

(Editors note: the pic of Fenner is completely gratuitous, included to give the perception that the Jo’bloggers are men of the world that know hot girls.)
One saggy boob said to the other saggy boob:
“If we don’t get some support soon, people will think we’re nuts.”
I laughed out loud…!
