Grafitti: art, vandalism, or both?

I took this pic a while back. I find tagging to be a funny thing, if it is a nice looking piece that’s not just blatant vandalism, I generally don’t mind it, but those arb single-colour signature tags you see on people’s front walls piss me off big time. That’s not sub-culture, it’s just a mess. I want to find the punks that do it and bitch-slap them.
That’s why I enjoyed this link I saw in Friday’s B3ta newsletter.

I agree, the crap tags in a rubbish drippy red colour really do suck! But the proper pieces of grafitti are art. They take their time, use techniques and start with a blank canvas.

They can say what ever they want to say, but if you have never held that spraypaint and feel the responsibility you are giving yourself. the rush, the joy of really enjoying what you are doing.
It is our little habit, our crave and it is what i love. give the space and room let me show you that we as people live in different wolds, the one has no colour grey and boring,and the other one……..

Grafitti is art. But lets not get it twisted with those dump tags like: “suzy 4 richard” or “blaze was here” you often find on trains, bridges or any public space – now,that’s vandalism!
Having said that, a beautiful piece of grafitti on private property is still vandalism. But if it’s done right, like you see nowadays, it can be well appreciated without people coming and painting over it. Grafitti is ART!!!
