From Gauteng Blog:
| Local blogger advocates prison rape “I hope he lives. I hope he goes to prison. I hope the inmates fuck him a new ass…! “
Jo’blog |
There were no comments open, but I couldn’t let this go. Gilbert & Sullivan said it best, “let the punishment fit the crime”. Death penalty for murder, that’s an easy one. So what is a just punishment for someone who emotionally scars you for life by throwing himself in front of your car in an attempt to kill himself, while at the same time endangering you and your family? I think a bit of emotional scaring would fit that crime nicely, wouldn’t it Bubba?
But he missed the point altogether…!
PS. If you’re in advertising, I don’t really want you die, no matter how often I say it. Just thought you should know in case you missed where I was going too.
PPS. You can’t actually fuck people a new ass (colon issues etc.)
Update: GP has replied. This would have been far easier had you simply opened comments. I’m glad you stood by your original argument, I would’ve lost respect if you didn’t, I still think you’ve missed the point though.

The point was missed completely indeed, must be hard-up for stuff to post!
Next thing ye know, boxers will be outlawed! People should not take things so serious, thats why they jump I guess…

What an idiot. It is rare indeed to come across someone who has absolutely zero understanding of figurative speech, or the use of colloquial rhetoric on the Internet. On top of that, his “blog” is so pompous, dull, and politically correct, that it is little wonder he has to pounce on other blogs to stir things up a little.

Yeah, I have to say that it does seem like a bit of sensationalism. GP is definatley taking things a bit too literally and is posting out of context.
Having said that though, I’ve been a fan of Gauteng Blog for a while now. Still am…!

Off-topic (you got me thinking): If the punishment fitted the crime, is the punishment designed as a deterrent or an actual punishment? If it is the latter, doesn’t that translate into revenge? And if it is revenge, does that make society vengeful? In that case, should society decide what punishment fits the crime? And foremost, if society is vengeful, is it any better than the criminal being punished?
But I got your point, don’t worry
Poetic justice is the apt phrase, I think.

To be deliberately tasteless about the mentally ill person who tried to commit suicide is just about excusable. But you must surely realise that the post would be read by people with different points of view and experiences. Someone who has been depressed, or has had a family member commit suicide, would read what you wrote very differently to the way you intended.
To me it was barely funny, except in a silly kind of way. Have you ever listened to someone tell a joke, and they laughed so much you had to smile even if it wasn’t funny? (It was like that).
It seems you also missed a point, which is that if you choose to be offensive and then you shouldn’t act so surprised when people take offense.

Weenie, I guess you’re more right than you thought, You see, you totally miss-interpreted the post too.
I am one of those people who has experienced the suicide of a family member (as was implied with the words “I know this”). I visited the morgue to identify the body. I went to the inquest and had to be subjected to the photos of a double-barreled shotgun wound to the head, again, a year later. A year where, as a grown man, I was unable to sleep with the lights off, because that same wound was all I could see when I closed my eyes. I understand first-hand the selfish nature of being “left behind”. It angers me.
So much so that it led to my irrational statements regarding these guys, and their disgusting selfishness, not only fucking up the lives of their own famalies, but of others too. The same statements that were, I believe, blown out of proportion by GP.
I’ve just re-read the original post and struggle to find any humour whatsoever, intended or otherwise. I assure you though that humour was the last thing on my mind when I wrote it…!

Well Rich, methinks you doth (continue to) protest too much.
It seems we have a few things in common. For one you also missed my main point which was simply that if you chose to post tasteless and offensive remarks it is a bit rich to claim afterwards that your detractors have blown things out of proportion. Which is the line you are still sticking to I see.
You’ve cleared up my misunderstanding though: you weren’t trying to be funny with your “I hope they fuck him a new ass” comment. On the other hand you clearly weren’t being too serious because when someone objected to your sentiments you accused him of missing the plot. No, you state that you were simply being irrational because of your anger.
Hey whatever floats your boat, but strange that you insist on attacking your critic for “missing the point” when your point was not very rational to start with.

Weenie, What are you still going on about!!
I totally agree with Rich…! If you gonna be selfish and commit suicide, at least they could have been a little considerate! Jumping onto a highway! Honestly how more self centered could you be? Things could have turned out a lot worse! a possible scenario:
‘a mass pile up leaving 7 people dead or something!’
And the point Rich…! is making is that his wife and child drive home on that road, around the same time! These Self-centered assholes could have killed them. There are alot of tall places to jump off in Gauteng that wont leave a traffic nightmare! So i dont blame rich for being angry, And u know what i hope he does live and gets torn a new one!

HighHorse: Pull up a chair, a comfy one, the hot strippers will be around in a second.
Weenie: It’s been real. Suicide talk keeps me up at night.
I’m tired…!
March 14th, 2005 at 12:46 pm
Yeah, people who screw up traffic and kill other people in the process of killing themselves should all get ripped new ones!
