I’ve not seen much of this year’s Idols competition, but while watching tonight’s show I picked up on this example of Gareth Cliff’s sharp intellect…

Yes, very good Gareth, you should be a fucking oracle with that foresight…!

95c
Posted by D'ave under Uncategorized on October 30 2005 at 5:38 PMStanding in line at the till at Pick ‘n Pay this morning, an employee approached the lady in front of me with a raffle-looking thing. After about ten seconds she shook her head and said, rather not-nicely, no thank you.
So the keen raffler looked at me and said “Would you like to donate 95c to :: insert organisation’s name here :: charity for people with cataract problems?” “Of course” said I rather loudly, “it’s only a measly 95c.”
How can you be so tight with your money that R1 is too much to part with? If she said “sorry I don’t have any cash, I’m paying by card” that would be a different story, but to just say no is just wrong. And it’s not like this employee is just sitting on her ass like those other irritating people that shout out at you to save a child’s life when you have handfuls of bags leaving the store, she’s actually walking around getting donations, before you’ve paid for all your goods. Thinking ahead I’d say.
If you’re one of those people, shame on you. When those people get their cataracts fixed (or whatever they’re getting done to them) I hope you feel the death stares burning your soul. Just kidding, Jesus loves you all!

The faceless masses
Posted by Rich...! under Uncategorized on October 26 2005 at 12:06 AMI’ve been meaning to post about this billboard for ages, but just kept forgetting. Basically, it fucks me off.
Are these guys actually implying that if I don’t have an insurance broker, I’m simply a faceless blur? How arrogant (ignorant). Who approves this shit?
Bah! Another Loerie candidate in the making…!

clueless.com
Posted by Rich...! under Uncategorized on October 25 2005 at 11:45 PMSo as mentioned, I’m all for the “fight for light” campaign, but this little pre-ticked opt-in area at the bottom of kulula.com’s petition for the initiative got my back up:
What about all the (I assume most) people that want to know about the progress of “fight for light” but really dont want to receive a ton of cheap-flight-special-offer spam from Kulula? It amazes me how many people still can’t grasp the very simple concept of permission marketing.
Sigh…!

Not for goths
Posted by Rich...! under Uncategorized on October 25 2005 at 11:36 PMLocal low-cost carrier kulula.com is spearheading an initiative to try and get the government to buy-into daylight saving time for South Africa, the initiative is called “fight for light”
They state a number of reasons justifying it, some make sense, and others are a bit (very) weak, but as a whole I’m convinced.
There really is no sense wasting an hour of sunlight while I’m trying to sleep-in, and an extra hour of sun in the evening would rock. Go to their page and have a look at the facts as they present them, it’s pretty compelling.
Then if, like me, you buy into their thinking, there’s a petition you can fill in.
Sorry D’ave…!

No-vehicle Day today

I’m sorry, I’m all for the environment and stuff like that, but asking me to ride a bicycle to wherever I need to go instead of using my car is just crazy talk!
It happened in Beijing last month, and apparently most of them hopped on their bikes and went about their business.
Joburgers? Not a chance.

What is it about people and their need to wait until 1-hour before lottery time to buy their ticket?
Losers.
A very, very vast majority of ‘em anyway…!

For the love of all that is good man, don’t ever wear those shorts again – I’d just had my breakfast!
I’m hoping it was a case of a lost bet or intense peer pressure at play here, but remember:
When you’re under duress, you have the right to remain fabulous…!

Mini leaves Melrose Arch
Posted by Rich...! under Uncategorized on October 13 2005 at 9:36 PM

Very cool billboard (of sorts) at Melrose Arch, it’s a Mini Cooper that’s driven straight through the parking garage wall. Obviously it’s on the freeway and is designed to be seen at a glance as you speed past it.
Oh, and while you’re at it go check out Gari’s site, he has a rad mini ad up there too…!

Reply to all
Posted by D'ave under Uncategorized on October 13 2005 at 10:40 AMI love ‘Reply to all’. The greatest thing they could’ve added to all email programs. If someone sends a mass email that’s really really crap, hit ‘Reply to all’ and let them have it! It’s lovely.
The next logical step, you’d think, was to add a ‘Reply to all’ to SMS’s. A mate sent me, (yes, me!), an SMS asking if I was interested in buying an LG (excuse me while I clear the vom from my keyboard) laptop. LG? Me? A self-proclaimed sing-Apple‘s-praises spokesperson! I knew it was a mass SMS ‘cos it started with ‘Hey guys,’.
So here’s the thing: If cell phone companies had to add a ‘Reply to all’ feature on their handsets, we could burn our friends over cell phones as well. Eh? Or is it just me…

This is my new tattoo, got it two weeks ago. This pic was just after we’d finished. Thanks, again, to Marcus from Evolution.
And before you ask, Wez, the ’5′ theme is in this one too. Each section has a specific image in it that has to do with some point in my life. If you wanna know more, you’ll have to chat to me in person. I couldn’t be sodded to type it all out!

Opportunities…and tourettes
Posted by Rich...! under Uncategorized on October 4 2005 at 6:20 AMShit, fuck, piss, wank – sorry, we’ve really been neglecting Jo’blog a bit over the last few weeks. We’ll try to improve – promise. However, we think that this has been worth the wait:
-Drumroll please-
We’re not sure of the entry criteria just yet, but Graham’s a real stud-muffin (talented too, he made this poster), damn, if it wasn’t for the “no boys” rule, the four of us would be over him like a rash…!
