As I’m sure most of you will have noticed we have been experiencing a few difficulties with TypePad and our hosts to try and get IP’s/DNS’s/whatever else to link to the right places. Anyway after being down for long enough we decided to move from TypePad to WordPress. We still need to import all our posts from TypePad, but hopefully all should be back to normal in a few days.
Thanks for sticking around.
UPDATE : Please could you change your RSS feeds for Jo’blog to point to :

ANOTHER UPDATE : Finally got all our old posts imported (Thanks QuickSilver!)

Missed you guys – the blogosphere just wasn’t the same.
February 15th, 2006 at 11:10 am
Yeah, looking forward to it…
Also, Peas, don’t you want to look into enabling non-Blogger commenting on your site? I mean, yes, you’d probably be overwhelemed with lewd requests, but our favourite daily soap-opera-thingy would be so much better if it were interactive!
February 15th, 2006 at 1:39 pm
Martin I would love to. Just how do I do this? Any ideas? I’m crap at stuff like this generally. A step by step how to do?
February 15th, 2006 at 1:52 pm
Martin I think I figured it out, just played with my settings. Now you can comment all you like.
February 15th, 2006 at 3:48 pm

February 20th, 2006 at 8:58 am
I’m no WordPress Hero but I’ve seen folks use Spam Karma 2 to fight the Spamnation Comment Army.
February 20th, 2006 at 1:02 pm
Wezzo – SK2 is a good plugin !!!!
Also use HashCash 2 – does a little javascript thingie with the server before allowing the comment – a little less admin intensive and they say works 100% – i haven’t been spammed yet !

What about a Captcha type spam blocker?
February 20th, 2006 at 2:33 pm
Welcome back – missed you guys – sniff sniff.
February 20th, 2006 at 3:36 pm
CAPTCHA’s not a bad idea – I had to enable mine last week, seeing as I built up a few comments overnight. 693, to be exact… and I get mail notifications for every single one. It hurt.
February 20th, 2006 at 3:54 pm
You will need a decent spam plugin fast! Spam Karma 2 is good but so is Akismet which is built into WP2. I have both running and they work fine, although I have had problems with them labelling a few genuine comments as spam. Always check before deleting them, so it can become a bit of a chore.

Help! Anyone know why the avatars are not showing in Opera?
February 27th, 2006 at 8:44 am
Hi
Feel like sharing how you managed to get all your old MT posts imported ???
Thanks
February 27th, 2006 at 10:41 am
Sure…
Export your posts from TypePad to “import.txt” and use the Import menu item in WordPress to upload the file.
—————————————–
Edit /wp-admin/import/mt.phpFind the “function get_entries()”
Change “$importdata = file($this->file);” so that “$this->file” actually is the path of your imported file on the server. So my entry became :
$importdata = file(“c:/Domains/joblog.co.za/wwwroot/wp-content/uploads/2006/02/import.txt
Just remember that each time you import a file with the same name in MT it increments the extension… so “import.txt” becomes “import.txt2″ if “import.txt” was already uploaded previously.
Also another problem I had was that it would only import for about 30 seconds after which I had to click back and then re-submit (It detects duplicates so it doesn’t import them but you may want to edit the file you are importing from and delete the posts which have already been imported (use ftp to go in, download your file, deleted entries and then upload, overwriting the import file).
Hope this helps??

Hi Joe, of course we dont mind lil bro, but do me a favour please, some of that hardcore 3-way lesbian porn you’ve been sending me has been accidentally deleted, if you could send it again it would rock.
You da man…!
