Ah yes folks, it’s that time again.
Last year’s debate on blogging with the 20ceansvibe army was most entertaining, this year’s debate on podcasting could be equally so.
You see theoretically 2oceansvibe have launched a podcast (note the permalink):

Thing is, this isn’t really a podcast, it’s just streaming media. and it definitely wouldn’t be SA’s first even if it was.
The fundamental principal of a podcast is that it isn’t streaming, it’s a file with an RSS feed that a user can download to a device of their choice and listen to when they want it. What amazes me is that they link to a definition of podcasting that they have totally ignored:

i actually made a video art podcast the day after the video ipod came out, and it was announced on my blog (if they want a technical “first SA blog podcast”). http://odys.org – in fact, it was the first ever video art podcast for ipod, wordlwide.
after more than three years of blogging, is it just that i’m not really on the radar of the SA blogosphere? WTF? do i gotta write about Paris first? sigh.

Actually, there is a afrikaans website : http://www.watkykjy.co.za and a week or two ago, they have launched a podcast. This podcast was definitely before joblog.co.za or 2oceansvibe.co.za
Whether it is the first in South Africa….I dont know!!!

…by the way great post Rich…! I was going to say something about it as well. For it to be a podcast yeah you need an RSS feed firstly secondly using YouTube has got to be the worst idea ever. I don’t have a great connection so I have to wait at least 10 minutes before anything starts to happen. Seth has also thrown down some code that refreshes his page every 10 minutes, funny that. Thats one great recipe for a tasty, tasty treat.
The lad doesn’t allow for comments so I couldn’t be bothered to let him in on my little secret.
