While everyone in Gauteng,
including myself,
was resting on a warm Sunday afternoon, a gang of heavily armed men robbed Honeydew Pick ‘n Pay.
The suspects were followed to their hideout in Jeppestown, where they ambushed policemen, all-in-all 12 people were killed.
Terrible.
And on a Sunday.

JHB gets more like the wikld west every year hey? Weird thing is, crime stats say this kind of crime is def on the decrease.. none the less, i wouldn’t want to be a cop in Egoli!

I hope like hell the government has changed the law again regarding the cops and their firearms. I recall at one stage a few years back, they made it so a policeman was not allowed to draw his firearm unless he was being shot at! This came out after the huge Grayston offramp cash-in-transit heist where more than a handful of cops were killed but there were still questions being asked of witnesses whether or not the police drew there guns before shots were fired.. WHO CARES – Take the bastards down!

Power outages, wild west fucking antics, I love SA but this is getting too MUCH. Looks like the Mother COntinent is making SA follow the norm in the rest of the place. Reminds me of the book by Chinua Achebe: Things fall apart.

Hoox, you rock! Shoot the fuckers, they should expect to die when they fire shots. Why are we trying to protect criminals from cops who are only protecting themselves.

Erich, reminds me of the U2 track: Sunday Bloody Sunday.

In SA its everyday bloody everyday. In the original AMITYVILLE HORROR MOVIE when the priest walks into the house the house turns crosses around and you hear this demon whisper : GET THE FUCK OUT…. thats how I feel about SA….

Then you should get the fuck out Erich and leave the place tothose who give a shit! Go on, fuck off!

Chiz, you can suck my piles in all honesty your bravado is so 20th century that it hurts. You can care your self to death for all I care…

Yeah it’s crazy. Just another day in Johannesburg. Why is it that we love this place so much again?
June 27th, 2006 at 9:10 am
Randburg Waterfront! I mean, Brightwater Commons!
The only place I know that has Lazer Games, Bowling, Adventure Golf, and the opportunity to watch kids fall off their skateboards and BMX\’s.
What more do you want?

Hi Don. I had the privilege of knowing a policeman last year. He committed suicide in January, largely because of the images he couldn’t shift out his head space. Whenever I’ve needed a man in blue, they’ve arrived, & gone on bended knee to make my children feel safe. I’m very grateful for all the brave people out there, who give of themselves to that degree. My condolences and prayers go to all those families.

../Ant – That article is worrying, but dead on true.
Jen – I totally agree. I couldn\’t do it. My hat goes off to them all.

I agree with: respect to the men in blue, and a good hearty “fine, we can do without you” (read “shame, you haven’t got the balls, have you?”) to Erich.

It is gratifying to know that 8 of the robbers were also killed. Now if this were Saudi Arabia or somewhere the policeman’s families would get to stone the fuckers to death. It might not bring them back but the closure…

Martin, dont need to have the balls. want to enjoy my alloted time in this life and not worry about going to the shopping mall. But you are right if I cant stand the heat then I should move out of the kitchen. Guess I will be spending my time in the lounge and bar…
Just dont know when bravado turned into stupidity.. beats me

On the bright side, though – Johannesburg is no-longer listed by the UN as “The Most Dangerous Place in the World – Outside of a War Zone”. Since Bagdad is no-longer officially a war zone, that honor now goes to them.

A colleague and friend of mine’s brother was one of the cops killed that day. Today is a month later and she is with her family because they are not coping. ………… I cry when she cries and talks of how she has lost her best friend and he will never dance with her again and he will never see her kids. She just misses him ….

It’s terrible… I’m really sorry to hear that. All you can do is be there with her and try ease as much of the pain as possible…

Thank you for an additional improbable blog. Where else may anybody get that kind of info written in such a perfect method? I have a presentation that I am just now working on, and I’ve been on the look out for such information.
