I love driving, firstly because I get to scream my favourite tracks in the car, making an arse of myself drumming on the steering wheel and using the roof for the cymbals, but I also love driving ‘cos it’s an awesome time to think. About everything.
Last night on my way to gym I was thinking, if some stupid dick had to jump a robot, slam into the side of my car and kill me, would I be cool with that? Would I think (in my angelic state looking over my bloody corpse) that it was just my time, or would I be thinking I wish I had more time on this earth to do what I needed to do. I’m not talking about fulfilling dreams like climbing Everest or head-butting Prince Charles, I’m talking about if I’d be happy with how people thought of me, and if I’d told everyone who’s close to me how I felt.
Who would miss me? Who’d miss me first? What would happen the following day when I don’t show up for scheduled appointments? Or the day after that?
Then I thought, how long would it take for the police / paramedics to notify my family, and how would they go about it, either if I had some form of identification on me or not. Like you see on the news when they tell you someone was killed, but they can’t tell you who until the family’s been notified. How long does it really take?
All this and more in an intense 5 minute drive to the gym. Have you ever thought about it?
Scary stuff.

Somehow all three of JS’s comments have been deleted from ../Ant’s previous post, and we have no idea how.
Clever ../Ant is gonna re-post them ‘cos all comments get sent via e-mail, but does anyone have any idea why / who / how?
Update: They were flagged as spam (go figure), they’ll be back up soon.

Here’s the proof. Shamelessly letting his very own Calumn edit videos on a weekend. Disgusting…

Wow, how times have changed. Just over a year ago we were all but unknown to the loyal followers of 2oceansvibe. Now it seems they’re regular readers.
Since last night at 17h40, when we posted our Coverboys parody, 2oceansvibe readers have been “…bombarding [Seth Rotherham] with requests to stand up and say something.”
I’m blushing here, I had no idea we had so many (both) of Seth’s readers visiting our humble site. I guess there’s only so much a person needs to know about Christina Aguilera and Paris Hilton.
What is strange is the comparison he makes between us and the now legendary British kids’ show “The Wombles”. Don’t get me wrong, we’re flattered that he sees us as so popular, but it does say a lot about his television viewing habits that this is the comparison he made. I guess between Camparis and Savannas he needs to draw inspiration from somewhere – which, unsurprisingly is also apparent in his writing style.
The Gareth Cliff barb was a low blow though, how can he be so hurtful? Alas it seems he just doesn’t like the competition (but lets face it, looking at the pic below, there’s no way we can really compete).

(Caption contest, prizes on offer, leave your submission in the comments)
In closing, we would like to compliment Seth on his now improved site design, don’t get me wrong, it’s still the same old shitty blue wash out, but now with nicer pictures picture. Sadly the look of our site has gone down a bit in recent posts post.
Thanks for the mention bro, we find it really cute that the little people haven’t forgotten us, what, between our numerous television appearances and speaking gigs.
I’ll be back later, I’m just off to compare Technorati rankings…!
Update: This pic rocks, so we’ve turned it into a caption contest for you, we’ll have prizes.

Yeah, chicks dig us.

(Much respect to the PixelWarrior for the cover design)
Even more so now that we’re this month’s cover story in Elle.
By cover story I mean there was an exclusive full length feature on us in the magazine.
By full length feature I mean that we were mentioned three whole times (page 94 – 96), and by exclusive I mean we were alongside a few other bloggers like Commentary, and the one-man-media-mogul, Cherryflava. Sadly 2oceansvibe wasn’t included in the article, not even once, not so much as a single mention, ah the price of fame.
Check back soon for the Jo’blog calendar.
We’re so hot right now…!

Last Friday Don and I headed off to a night of punk rock pleasure at the Blues Room in Village Walk (go figure). This wasn’t just any old gig though, but more of a tribute to the bands that kicked off the scene here years ago, bands like Leek and the Bouncing Uptones, Fuzigish, and the Vendettas.
We missed the first band, but were in time for a rocking Slashdogs set. If you’ve not seen these guys, you just gotta. Even if you’re not a Rock n Roll fan as such, there’s just so much energy and show that you can’t help but love these guys.
Then the walk down memory lane began…
The crowd:
Then:

Now:

Same Trevor. Different finger.
Leek and the Bouncing Uptones:
Then:

Now:

Aw man, what a show. It was so good seeing these guys again, man alive they rocked the house, even if some of the members do have less hair. I hit the crowd running and bumped into some guy in the pit, he got upset with me cos he spilled his beer. In the fucking pit! What’s the world coming to?
Fuzigish:
Then (so it begins):

Now:

Shit, what can I say about these guys, if you haven’t seen em, you haven’t lived. I cant experience a Fuzi set without a grin on my face for the duration, it’s just the perfect mix of fun, energy, great tunes and great pit. Ampie’s a rad addition to the band, sadly Lord Zoltan’s missing, presumed eaten.
We missed The Vendettas but we saw them the week before and they rocked as always. Punk rock’s not just for punks anymore. Get to a gig, you’ll love it.
See you in the pit…!

So the other day Don mentioned the traffic in Northriding. On Friday, on my 2km drive to work, I got stuck for 15-mins watching a big truck (equally stuck) sitting in the middle of the road.

The builders, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the li’l yellow grader thingymabob could push the big truck out of the road.
It couldn’t.
Sometimes I really hate Bellaires Drive…!

Only 16 months later than America, the Xbox 360 is due to launch in SA next month. Yipee, I’m sick of hearing about all of these great games and not being able to sink my own teeth into them. The launch price is set to R3,699 (So I won’t be getting it right away) – start saving, or hold out for the PS3 – but that could be a loooong wait. If you want the latest news regarding this hop along to xbox-360.co.za.
I hope that Xbox Live is as good in SA as it seems to be everywhere else.
On a side note, check out the comments on this post about the launch… sometimes it still shocks me that a lot of people think we have lions and elephants walking in our back yards.

I’m convinced. I’ve started back into the whole gym routine again, been swimming and playing squash for a while, but decided I needed to put on my toit T-shirt and head upstairs to show the boys what a real man looks like. I couldn’t find him, so I started my training.
On Wednesday I concentrated mainly on my stomach and back, alternating with some shoulder and chest exercises.
Today, I hurt.
Okay, I pushed it a bit, but just to let the muscles know who’s boss and tell them they’re gonna have to shape up ‘cos they’re gonna be on display on the beach in about 4 months (hopefully).
Thing is, my thighs and the muscles around my groin hurt too, I struggle to stand up straight. The only thing I can deduce is that strong stomach muscles are a lot more important than what most people may think. So I figure if I just do spans of stomach exercises, and a few other muscle groups on the side, I’l be one buff chap, and all the guys at the gym will be looking to me for guidance, inspiration, and tips on getting chicks. It all just makes sense really…

This post’s heading has two stories to it.
Story 1:
I do hate the traffic. I stay about 1km from the Link, and on my way here this morning, in that short space of time, I got frustrated.
Lesson 1: Don’t cross the road at a robot if you know that you’ll be blocking the cars from the side, ‘cos chances are the light’s gonna go red, and your silly ass is gonna be blocking me, which means I can’t go anywhere when it goes green for me.
Rain + most Gauteng drivers = “Duuuuuuh, garshk, how do I drive this here motor veehickel Mary-sue, duh-hyuk!”
Story 2:

Tomorrow night, The Blues Room, if you’re not there, you’re missing out on one shit-hot punk-assed event! Pioneers of the Underground is gonna be one hot weekend gig, with Pretoria punk legends Leek and the Bouncing Uptones performing two reunion shows, and The Vendetta’s, another one of the key players in the SA punk scene reuniting to put the ‘the man’ back in his place! Rich and I saw them on Friday night at London Calling, and they’re still as tight as ever with crowd favourites ‘My choice’, I like beer more than girls’ and ‘I hate the traffic’.
Really, if you’re not at the Blues Room, sorry for you. Leek and The Vendettas will be playing alongside My Favourite Weapon, Fuzigish, and Reverend Wright will be performing with Leek and The Slashdogs! Two sets, two nights, you go boy! It’s gonna be killer killer killer!
So get your skanking shoes on and get your punk-ass to The Blues Room for one massive night!

You’d think, with 4 months to go, one would be able to find a place to stay for the December / January holidays with no problem. That, my friends, is totally not the case.

If you can help, please mail me or leave a comment on the site. Thanks.

A Bloemfontein man escaped a good body-squashing (I still have no idea how) after his parachute got tangled and he hit a ploughed field.
He landed 60 seconds after jumping, whereas a normal jump would last about 6 minutes. Someone should tell him it’s not a competition!
In other para-news, a commander in the police force died after being ordered to jump in a night time training exercise, even though he hasn’t been cleared to do parachute jumps for the past nine years.
Silly polisiemanne.

A friend’s birthday bash was held at Manhattans in Rivonia last night. I can’t tell you how many couples I saw arguing, and how many guys looked at me like I’d just shagged his lady and he wants revenge. On my way out walking in the parking lot I passed this wonderfully exciting chest-flairing ‘make-my-mama-proud-that-I-was-edjamacated’ conversation:
Drunken angry jock-type 1: “You know what? Your best friend can go fuck his mother!”
Drunken half-naked screaming crying little girl: “Shut up! Hey! Shut up! Don’t you dare talk about his best friend’s mother like that! Don’t you dare!”
Drunken angry jock-type 2, being held back by the bouncers: “Oh ja, what then? What then?”
That’s all I caught as I walked past, but the clencher was some random guy, on his own, about 50 metres away, talking to himself:
“Come. Bring it. Yerrie bring them all. Twenty. Come. I’m keen.”
Yup, a night out clubbing isn’t complete without some idiot thinking he can moer some guy (or twenty in this case) just ‘cos…

The Muso asked a few SA bloggers (I was one of them) to write about their favourite song of the moment, in order to put up a collaborative post. People sent their posts in, and The Muso published them all.

I sent mine in, late, so I’m gathering that’s why I’m right at the bottom! Nonetheless, it’s all there, go check it out!

So I have no trouble in telling you all that last night, for the first time ever, I had my eyebrows waxed.
Not all off you understand, just shaped. I won’t lie, the sections closer to my eyelids hurt like a bitch, but overall it was a very rewarding experience, and today, I feel more handsome than ever.

Kirstin from Fairy Godmother Inc. sent me this l’il bit of info this morning.
Many talented young vocal artists are faced with the challenge of funding their first album, which can amount in South Africa to a staggering R400 000. This is forcing local musicians to be highly innovative in launching their careers. One Cape-based singer/songwriter – Verity – currently has interested parties in the local and international music industry watching her progress with a model that ignores the major record labels, but still launches her career, gives money to charity, involves fans and empowers other local artists.
Verity has developed a unique business model that rests on the concept of pre-selling her album on www.iamverity.com to 5 000 fans or corporate sponsors on a trust basis, before she records it. 10.6 percent of every sale will be split between two worthy initiatives – People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) and her Live Your Dreams fund for aspiring artists who lack financial backing. Once the 5 000-copy sales target is reached, a whopping R80 000 will have found its way into the charity coffers dear to Verity’s heart. Future owners of the CD also stand to win prizes from the Lucky Packet, the best so far being two R5 000 Intec distance-learning bursaries.
There are already over 700 future owners, in more than 21 different countries worldwide! Don’t miss your chance to be part of this exciting journey.
Check out the project and become a Future Owner here.
While I think this is awesome, I unfortunately think that this is probably going to be a one-time thing. I wish I didn’t think like that, but knowing what kind of people are out there, sooner than later there are going to be fraudulent buggers trying to make a quick buck.
But while it’s still fresh, go get yourself a CD, or should I say pay for it first, and watch Verity’s dream come true. And while you’re at it, check out her blog here.

Former Australian test batsman and 1990’s cricketer of the year Dean Jones was fired from his TV commentary job after calling SA cricket player Hashim Amla a ‘terrorist’ during a break, that apparently only South Africa didn’t take.
After a full-page apology to Amla and the South African team, the gracious cricketer accepted his apology, and said he hopes Jones get through this ugly situation that he’s going through.
Me? I’d sue the bugger. Hehe.

I love News24. Not just because I get most of my news stories from there, but also because of the Love2Meet Dare to date me column on the right hand side. Every time you refresh the page (to keep up-to-date with the news) a new member appears, and the range varies dramatically.
What I’ve noticed a lot of, however, is people that really aren’t too fussed about how old their perfect match should be.

Between 18 and 100? Shucks, 75, max, not 100… Oh well, different strokes…
(It was funnier in my head)
