Rumour has it
Posted by Don Packett under Uncategorized on October 31 2006 at 10:40 AMSaw this on my way to a meeting this morning.

A little further down the road were two more signs saying “Road tax is coming” and “4 wheels pay, 2 wheels don’t”.
Can anyone confirm this? I’ve never heard of (or found online) a publication called ‘News Today’, and I can’t find anything remotely close to any news of road tax approaching.
My biggest thing, however, was that all these signs telling me I’m going to have to pay for the road I’m driving on, is on Bellaires Drive.
The
worst
road
in the North. But don’t take Rich’s or my word for it, ask Aquila too!

They are all over the place. Sandton, Rivonia even the east. I presume its got something to do with a motorbike / scooter campaign?
On the Traffic: Its taking me an hour to do 8 kms from Northriding too Bryanston. Anyone else notice its getting worse by the week?

Here’s an IOL article about this – apparently it’s true.

I don’t get it. So you pay for the road usage you think you’re gonna be using over a certain period of time?
How do they manage this? Silly buggers.

From what I’ve seen, it’s a marketing ploy by Vespa….

Yip – its part of a campaign (a costly one at that – at R10 per pole). There is no publication called ‘News Today’. All will be revealed soon.

We are paying for the licensing of our vehicles to use public roads now we are being charged to use the roads as well. What’s next, paying a levy for the amount of air that you breath on a daily basis “Pay as you BREATH”. Mark my words people, we are headed for a dictatorship rule of law.

seems the vespa campaign backfired a bit….as heard on a radio interview.
