Very clever.

With intelligence like that no wonder they failed! As long as they have something to blame other than themselves they will be fine!

while I in no way support the burning down of the school, I really didnt like the response from Crusoe above. Imagine the pure frustration you would feel if you had failed and felt your school had failed you. So many of our schools are unable to equip students with enough info to pass because they have no electricity, no chalk, ten year old charity text books, 10 desks, 40 students to a class, and under-qualified teachers.
was this the way to protest? NO!!! but lets understand the situation they are in, and bear in mind teenagers are not exactly renowned for their rational problem solving skills!

Katie, I didn’t say that there wasn’t a reason for them burning the school, I said that it is a disgusting mentality and can’t be justified.
Yes the school probably let them down, but burning it to the ground?? Common! What happens next year to the remaining pupils who want to try and pass their matric?
You may not have liked my response, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. There is a reason for everything, but what you are doing is saying that it is OK to murder someone during a robbery because you know what, the system let them down and they didn’t have anything else to do. That’s crap! There are ways to do things and there are ways to not do things.
Out of all the options available to them, burning the school was a short-sighted, ignorant, and vengeful way of dealing with the situation and it is a sure sign of their mentality! What does it achieve?
It wasn’t all of the students that burnt the school. So what did the others do? Maybe they wrote to the board of education. Maybe they started self study. Maybe they got really pissed off and marched on the offices of the school board. Maybe they decided to repeat their matric to try and pass next year, but now they can’t because some of the students decided that the best way to deal with their failure rate was to burn down the school.

Sorry Crusoe, now you’ve misunderstood me.
firstly, I stated in my comment that I did not agree with what they did, so why devote most of your quite angry comment to telling me I did and I’m wrong?
Secondly, i should have been more clear in my post, but what i didnt like about yours was not the point but the tone. “with intelligence like that no wonder they failed” – is what I was objecting too.
Anyway, no need to enter into a comment war here. no hard feelings, right!?

…maybe they where trying to get the teachers fired.

Hey Katie
No hard feelings at all, and sorry for my tone. I was a bit harsh in my tone, it was reactionary in nature.
However (grin), I do believe that it is a sign of intelligence. Not taught intelligence, but core value intelligence. Without having been told that certain things are wrong, our core values will be able to determine whether something is wrong or not. I doubt any parent or teacher ever thought to specifically tell their children/pupils that burning down a school was wrong, so their core values should have taken over. The fact that they didn’t is worrying because I shudder to think we live in country where peoples core values are so undeveloped.
