Where did all the soccer supporters come from?

I think I’m a bigger fan of the All Black haka than I am of rugby itself. So when I was watching this vid just now, listening to our crowd singing their ole’s , I had to shake my head.
Firstly, we should show some respect. They kinda deserve it.
Secondly, we should get something like this of our own. Shit, eleven languages and cultures, we gotta have something we can shout about with pride.
Which brings me to my third point “Ole ole ole ole” it’s not even South African, fuck people, it’s not even rugby, it’s a British football chant from before I was born.
My theory on the whole thing is that we have no national pride yet, we have cultural pride. We haven’t managed to get past our own differences, and that’s what’s needed if we want to unify as a country
We only have one history…!

The first thing that needs to go is our national anthem. Nothing says we are still a divided nation more than 30 000 rugby fan voices mumbling the Nkhosi Sikelel’ iAfrika part and then roaring out Die Stem.

Three things, Rich:
1) I love that Haka as well!
2) Ole was inappropriate, Shosholoza may have been a lil’ more appropriate
3) As Jason points out (and though I agree on the matter of fact but disagree on the matter of value) – There is a fundamental problem with how our national anthem is sung at the rugby but to just do away with it…? I think that’s a little extremist.

Surely “Ole`” comes from France?
I could not agree more otherwise. Shut up when one of the best things in sport is on the go. It’s like interupting the Welsh national anthem at Twickenham or stopping the Liverpool fans from singing Walk Alone.
Get a life, wait, better yet, blaim the referee.

Dead right- it’s pathetic. Even worse than the Australians ridiculous Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie, Oi Oi Oi, which is really saying something.
Oh- and it’s Spanish, not British. It’s actually mostly recognised at bullfights, where the crowd shout Ole on each charge.

As a challenge to the Haka, I think that after the anthems, the boks should break out a skottel and have a braai while watching the Kiwis do their war dance.

I cringe. We get pissy with the Aussies when they do the same thing. R.E.S.P.E.C.T!

Ooops, my bad on the OLE, the point remains the same though.
I’m a big shosholoza fan too, I’d just wait ’til the haka was done is all…!

Who cares where it came from – we have made it South African.
And I don’t see why we should just sit there and keep quite while the ABs try and psyche us out of the game. I think it was a great response to the haka!
And they only get my respect if they win the world cup! If! Ale la Bleu!
