So Facebook does have some advantages.
1. You can get in touch with old friends
2. Companies can see how much their mascots are really hated, and
3. People can organise mass pillow fights, and I’m guessing they’ll get a good response too

So if you’re in the Hatfield, Pretoria area on Friday 3 August at around 7PM, bring your pillow (and girls, your nighties) and prepare for the fight of your life!
Update: You can join the group here, and hey, you might even see some familiar faces…

So last night we trekked into Newtown to The Bassline to watch long time favourite Eagle Eye Cherry.
After almost getting about 3 car guards permanently fixed to my bumper, and fighting with one for thinking I was actually gonna pay him R50 for parking, we headed in.
The night started with South African vocalist Lira as the supporting act. Personally not my cup of tea, very salsa-jazzy-African-type vibe, and with only four very long songs in half an hour, I’m not too sure the type of crowd was correct. Either way, she received an applause when they were done, and we waited for Mr Cherry to enter the stage.
When he did, what a response. The man is awesome. A skinny Swede with bushy hair and moustache, Eagle Eye Cherry not only makes very rad music, he sings like a legend too.
I’m always weary of going to live gigs, ‘cos you might often find out that most of the musical genius is made in post in studio, so it’s really the producers and engineers who are the real artists, but last night proved that theory way wrong!
.
Eagle Eye was accompanied by another two guys, drummer and guitarist, for an awesome acoustic set that got the crowd going crazy. They started off really slowly, with a number of tracks that the crowd weren’t too familiar with, but they built as they played, and by the time the started the first four chords of Save Tonight, the crowd was awesome. After that they said thanks and headed off, but we all knew they’d be back, ‘cos they still had Falling In Love Again and Are You Still Having Fun left to play, and they had to play it.
After a few minutes of We-Want-More’s and loud whistling, the trio headed back on and played the remaining two tracks, and being crowd favourites, the place went mad. It was awesome.

Just before leaving Eagle Eye said that from such an awesome response, they’ll definitely be back in SA, and this time with the whole band for a bigger gig, I think that’s an awesome idea, ‘cos last night’s set was killer!
When they’re here again, make sure you get your ass to the gig, totally well worth it!

The Children’s Act has officially been launched, and approved by Uncle Thabo, so there’s no need for regulations.

One of the sections of the Act is now giving children as young as 12 the right to access medical services without parental consent. These include HIV treatment and obtaining contraceptives. Now this, to me, is quite a sketchy subject.
1. It could be good in terms of preventing pregnancy and the spreading of HIV, but
2. It could also promote young kids having sex earlier and earlier.

It just depends on the kid I think, which sucks. Why can’t they all think the same way? Little shits.
I tend to lean towards point 2 (the problem) more than agreeing with point 1. The thing is, the lower the bar, the lower the chances of younger kids trying to push the bar, if you know what I mean. Like, driver’s licenses are legal at 18. When I was 15, I wasn’t too keen on stealing the car, however, at 16, I took the risk, because two years younger sounds WAY better than three.
Same as now. Make it legal for 12 year olds to get condoms, and the 10 year olds will come a-knocking. How are you gonna check their age? It’s not like they carry their birth certificate around with them…

Another issue the new Act deals with is when a child becomes an adult. It has now shifted from 21 to 18. Now 18 year olds can sign contractual agreements without the consent of their folks. This I have no issue with, ‘cos if an 18 year old has the cash to buy a car, house, or get a big loan, they can. And if they’re stupid and think they can afford it and can’t, they’ll be in debt for a long long time.
I’m sure the banks are loving this new agreement!
