RIP Lucky Dube
Posted by Don Packett under Uncategorized on October 19 2007 at 9:42 AMReggae performer Lucky Dube, who some people would refer to as South Africa’s Bob Marley, was shot and killed last night in Rosettenville.
The killers are still at large, I hope they pay sorely for what they’ve done to one of our homegrown international reggae legends.

What a huge loss to the SA music industry.
How many more people need to die in these hijackings before something drastic is done about this violent crime!

Yet another senseless murder in South Africa. I feel terrible for his little ones. RIP Lucky.

“The African Christian Democratic Party also sent its condolences to Dube’s family and called for the reinstatement of the death penalty.
The party’s Western Cape representative Hansie Louw said in a statement: “Will the death penalty not reduce the senseless killings? There is no respect for life.”
Here ye here ye!

The death penalty will not prevent these people from carrying on their violent ways. Dying gives them a way out – we want them to remember for the rest of their lives what they did. What we really need in this country are more jails and longer sentences. These prisoners must be made to work – things such as fixing roads and building houses for the people.

I don’t really want to get into this debate again, it’s been around the blogosphere too many times. I just think it’s all about respect for life, and the death penalty is the only thing that can bring that back. A jail cell where all the murderer’s chommies are living is not something to be afraid of!
