South Africa's pathetic internet penetration is directly related to the rip-off prices we have to pay for bandwith and connectivity. If we wish to educate our people and become competitive in the international businessplace we need the technology to facilitate the process.

Google will aid here by opening their local branch, and trust me, they'll learn new lessons and apply it to their local business model. So don't be too harsh on them initially, at least they're taking the step of getting a local HQ going.

Rich, the crazy part also, it the pathetic penetration of Internet among South Africans anyhow. Still confined to a small and elitist percentage of the population. Unless someone does something dramatic, it'll take a long time to change that. Google's thus exhibiting the usual Yankee 'let's talk down to the natives' approach.
